The start point for the best source of fleet information

Our Fleet Test Drive: Renault Kadjar - 7th report

Date: 07 July 2016   |   Author: David Motton

The Kadjar has been to Bucks, Essex and Oxfordshire over the past couple of weeks for car launches and meetings, but it hasn't all been work, work, work. With the more summery weather I've been able to make use of the Kadjar's towbar-mounted bike rack.

Adding the two-bike rack to the cost of the retractable tow bar adds £205 to the price of the towing gear alone, making a total of £795 (Renault calls this combo the 'Explore pack'). But it's a quality bike rack, and a quick online search suggests you'd pay closer to £260 to buy the same rack separately.

Usually you'd expect a car's fuel economy to improve as the engine loosens up, but our miles per gallon figures are staying stubbornly in the mid to low 50s. That's around 20mpg shy of the official combined economy, and well below the 67.3mpg urban figure that is probably a more realistic target in everyday driving. Hopefully, there's better to come as the car is still just short of the 3000-mile mark.

Despite the so-so real-world economy, the range on a tank is very impressive. Well over 500 miles is easily achievable, and driven sensibly at motorway speeds 600 miles-plus should be doable. Thank the 55-litre (12-gallon) fuel tank.
