Our Fleet Test Drive: Audi A4 - 6th report

Date: 03 March 2016   |   Author:

A trip to Ikea on a Saturday late afternoon could arguably be seen as a bad plan in isolation. Throw in two young children and it doesn't look any more clever. Add a car with a saloon shape - our Audi A4 - and it's beginning to look like a really daft idea.

In my defence, it wasn't deliberate. We were in the area to let the kids go wild in Toys R Us with their Christmas money, and a couple of dull house-related errands for us (new carpet etc.), and we got to the point where we all needed feeding. So Ikea meatballs it was. We weren't even going into the actual shop.

Then my wife decided we might just look for a new kitchen bin. Some £85 later we had a large furniture-based solution to the issue of the kids' toys being all over the lounge, as well as a range of other things we suddenly needed as we passed them. It's not called the 'Ikea Tax' in our house for nothing.

Then came the realisation that the furniture may not go in the car. Moving my daughter to the handy Isofix mounting point in the front seat, my wife squeezed in alongside my son in the back, and the large box just about went through the '40' element of the 60:40 with some persuasion and cunning. Who says saloons can't be practical?
