New Volvo V60 revealed

Date: 23 February 2018   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Volvo has taken the wraps off its new V60 estate car.

The new model will come with two plug-in powertrain options, with petrol engines and electric motors combining to produce 340hp or 390hp.

There will also be a choice of two regular petrol engines and two diesels, further details of which are yet to be revealed.

The new V60 is based on the same platform as the XC60 SUV and the brand's three 90 series cars.

It will feature safety systems including city safety with autobrake, which uses automatic braking and detection systems to help the driver avoid potential collisions.

Volvo says it is the only system on the market to recognise pedestrians, cyclists and large animals, and that in a world first the system now also engages automatic braking to mitigate oncoming collisions.

The pilot assist system, which helps the driver with steering, acceleration and braking on well-marked roads at speeds up to 80mph, has been upgraded with improved cornering performance.

The V60 also includes run-off road mitigation, oncoming lane mitigation and other steering-assistance systems.

Cross traffic alert with automatic braking will also be available as an option.

The new V60 will also come with Volvo's Sensus infotainment system, controlled via touchscreen and featuring full compatibility with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and 4G.

UK prices for the V60 will start at £31,810.

Volvo says full pricing and specification details will be announced shortly, with the first customer deliveries expected in the third quarter of 2018.

Volvo president and CEO Hakan Samuelsson said: "The family estate driver is an important customer for our business and has been for generations.

"The new V60 honours that tradition, but also takes it much further."
