New Audi A6 revealed

Date: 01 March 2018   |   Author: Sean Keywood

Audi has taken the wraps off its new A6 executive saloon.

At launch there will be a choice of two engines - a 3.0-litre petrol producing 320hp and a 3.0-litre diesel producing 286hp.

Depending on specification the petrol will achieve a combined fuel economy of between 39.7mpg and 42.1mpg, and CO2 emissions of between 161g/km and 151g/km, while the diesel will achieve between 48.7mpg and 51.3mpg, and between 150g/km and 142g/km.

Both engines will be available with automatic transmission only, with eight speeds for the diesel and seven speeds for the petrol, and come with four wheel drive as standard.

Both powertrains will come with mild hybrid technology, with a belt alternator starter (BAS) working together with a lithium-ion battery, enabling the A6 to coast at speeds of between 34mph and 99mph, and to initiate its stop-start function earlier, at speeds of 13mph and below.

During deceleration the BAS will recover up to 12kW of energy.

Audi says the new A6 features a larger interior than the outgoing model, providing additional rear legroom, and more front and rear head and shoulder room.

Infotainment will be controlled via a standard 8.8in or optional 10.1in touchscreen, while a lower 8.6in screen is used for climate control and text input.

Audi's Virtual Cockpit 12.3in LCD instrument display will be available as an option, as will a head-up display.

Sat-nav comes as standard, but the optional MMI navigation plus system will add features including a self-learning function.

Driver assistance systems available at launch will include adaptive cruise assist, which supports the adaptive cruise control with gentle steering inputs to keep the vehicle in lane.

Available at a later date will be parking pilot and garage pilot, capable of autonomously manoeuvring the car in and out of a parking space or garage, and allowing the driver to get out of the car before the manoeuvre is performed and activate the function via their smartphone.

As an option, Audi connect key will allow an Android smartphone to lock and unlock the car and start the engine.

Audi says the new A6 will be available this summer. Prices are yet to be confirmed.
